2021 Year in Review
2021 Year in Review
Doing our part!
Our year started like millions of others with Covid being at the forefront of the news and our daily lives. We embarked on getting our staff vaccinated and educated about safety for themselves and our clients.

Purple Day®
March is Developmental Disabilities month and it also brings Purple Day®, the Worldwide Epilepsy Awareness Day celebrated March 26th. We hosted an amazing Facebook/Zoom Live event with seven, count ‘em 7, of the area’s top neurologists with specialties ranging far and wide. It was a banner event and we hope to offer something even better this year.

In Memory
We lost too many clients this year to varied issues. Some of these great people have been with us for so many year that they were family and the losses were felt deeply.

Scholarships
Each year we offer two scholarships to college bound students who struggle with epilepsy. Each scholarship is $2500; one provided by our Epilepsy Foundation of NW Ohio and the second generously funded by Dr. & Mrs. Ateeq Haseeb (a Board of Directors member and local pediatric neurologist).
We Love Our Staff!
Thank you to Jeanies Food Truck for coming out to help us serve lunch to our very deserving staff! #DSPsAreEssential #loveourstaff #thankful #greatfood
Practically Golf
Fundraiser that pays for Family Camp for people with epilepsy, and their families; they enjoy Family Camp each year, at no cost to them.
In 2022, this event will be held on June 17th and 18th. Check back to register.

Carpe Diem Epilepsy Walk/Run
Held on the first Sunday in November each year. We were so fortunate to host our event at Swan Creek Metropark. The venue was ideal, the weather cooperated, we had more runners than ever and were supported by some wonderful groups as our guests: Toledo Humane Society and UT Nursing students. 2022 Carpe Diem is already scheduled (11/6/22).
Happy Retirement
In November we said a very fond farewell to Bev Helmlinger who has been an intricate piece of the Epilepsy Center since 2009. Bev started here as a volunteer and for many years she came in to help at the front desk, to do filing and help with events. About 5 years ago, she joined the newly formed Payee Department and has been a valuable member of that team since. Bev and her twin sister, Barb, are retiring to enjoy the good life. We all wish her much happiness and will miss her terribly.
