Seizure First Aid

Be prepared. Be confident. Be ready to help.

Seizures can happen anywhere, at any time. Knowing what to do in those moments can make a meaningful difference. Seizure first aid is simple, effective, and something anyone can learn. Now is a great time to review or create a Seizure Action Plan (SAP) for your child, student, employee, or loved one. A clear plan helps ensure the right steps are taken quickly and consistently.

What is Seizure First Aid?

Note: Epilepsy Center of Northwest Ohio is NOT affiliated with Epilepsy Foundation

Seizure first aid focuses on three key priorities: STAY, SAFE, SIDE

  • STAY with the person

  • Keep them SAFE

  • Turn them on their SIDE if possible

Most seizures end on their own within a few minutes. Your role is to protect from injury and provide calm support.

Why It Matters

  • Builds confidence for caregivers, educators, and coworkers

  • Reduces fear and uncertainty during a seizure

  • Helps ensure a safer environment at school, work, and in the community

  • Supports individuals living with epilepsy in everyday settings
